Result: Whites 3 – 0 Pembroke
Hey Lads, well both our Teams enjoyed 3-0 wins on Saturday, which meant 3B going three points clear at the top & Div5 coming within a point of top place! At the half way stage of the season, it was always in my mind to be in contention.
When I met all my old players/mates at the beginning of pre season I kinda knew what to expect. But to meet all of the new players, I could see the challenge to produce two successful squads!
All of you have proved that with dedication to the cause, a massive amount of effort and a lot of undeniable talent, anything is possible!
Some very old, some slightly younger, some even younger & some teenagers, you have all contributed to help develop a collective of 37 players and counting, to go out as two squads each week & do the business.
To say I am PROUD of you all is an UNDERSTATEMENT, you have risen to the challenges set and achieved so much already.

We must now realise we all have a chance to do something special and help the Uni Whites history become even greater. We cannot rest on our success so far, we must fight with all our beings to do more & bring home the bacon.

Let’s train with intelligence, we are now aware of what each of us has to offer, take care of your bodies, eat well, hydrate, rest when needed.
Be ready to play your part for the rest of the remaining season!

Personally I don’t do second best & you lads, yes you lads, have put us in a position, for that to happen …..

It’s in our hands…..
Winners are grinners…..

That’s it

Result: Whites 9 – 3 Cardijn

Hey Lads, well done on securing top spot over our closest rivals! It was a harder day than the scoreline shows.
We started well, but they used quick movement and we allowed them the space, maybe too much respect was shown! Better finishing from Ryo early on, May have changed the first half, however, they were the better side and deserved to lead!
A half-time talk was definitely needed and duly given. The lads understood the instructions to get up tight, pressure each player and push them back. We moved a few players around and immediately put them on the back foot.
Needless to say, we ran out comfortable on the scoresheet, but they did push us towards the end and we did get sloppy!
Thanks to Sam, Marc & Josh for helping, Josh got a hat-trick. Ryo came away with two as did Leo & after coming on in the final minutes our Sam headed a goal from a cracking cross by the other Sam…..!

Happy we are top, the real work starts now….we must consolidate this week against Pembroke, without that first half performance, please!

That’s it

Result: Whites 2 – 4 Unley

With a very stretched squad, playing the top and undefeated Unley was always going to be a difficult task. Unley had only conceded 3 goals for the season so Ismail had a lot to do. Despite conceding two goals early we didn’t drop our heads. Sammy Burt must have been watching Paul K too much, as he managed to lob the keeper from the left sided by-line it what will go down in one of football’s biggest debates; was it a shot or was it a scuffed cross (defiantly the latter). Unley managed to push the gap out to two again before Ismail brought the game to 2-4. Good display by a very light squad (5 of the 15 playing the game before and coach George). Thanks to all the players that filled in, and thanks to George for filling the CB whole left by injured Stef!

Result: 5 – 0 St Pauls

Well Saturday was a splendid day for our Lads against St Pauls. We did control the game with some good approach work, which resulted in lots of corners and crosses, they played us well throughout the half, but were no threat to our goal.
Second half we had more of the same, except our finishing was better & they got tired and less disciplined. Patience was rewarded late on when we finished with three goals in the last five minutes to make the score a fair reflection!
Sam got a very patient hat trick.

Thanks to Aaron & Ryo for helping out in Soukiie’s team. Aaaarh what it is like to be young!

Well done Lads, massive top of the table clash this week, so let’s have good training sessions & mental preparation for Saturday!

That’s it

Result: Whites 3 – 0
Wow lads wow, Saturday afternoon was a turning point for our squad of Men against moaners Unley!
Ok we started with some help in the first half, thanks to Cam & Sam who helped a lot at the back!
We had a quick fire start with yes you guessed it Sammy Belyovski hungry for another hat trick….greedy git! They pegged us back and it probably was a even contest at half time.
We then brought on the Big Guns……yep Micheal, Andy and Cris had their instructions and headed out. We had further goals from Machine Gun Sammy….( yep another hat trick) but then had to endure the last thirty minutes, more in our half than theirs. Needless to say we battled, clawed and were desperate and ultimately prevailed.

Easy to finish there, but I just can’t.

Every single one of you stood up and showed why our great club became just that, Great! The passion, the will, the team ethic, I could go on, it was a privilege to watch old heads as well as young, mature on the pitch as the game went on!
I also have to single out two lads.
Jimmy thank you for your immense determination to beat your old team, backing up from the game before, to stay the whole way. I nearly took you off several times, but I just couldn’t do it!
Then finally Mr Cris (no h) Birzer, what a half you had, Cris you epitomised the values Uni Whites hold so dear. Determination, strength and spirit were there for all to see…..kudos to you
and all of your teammates, you have raised the levels, let’s keep it going for the rest of the season!

That’s it

Result: Flinders 2 – 5 Whites

Well done lads for putting Flinders to the sword, on a very small pitch in cold, but not so bad conditions.
We controlled the game from start to finish and with some excellent and powerful wing work from Aaron, who along with Leo, tormented there full backs all day.
Another hatrick for Sam, lovely finish of a great move from Leo & a fitting farewell goal, from Russia bound Janis!
We let them have a couple of goals, mainly down to positional changes and those pesky interchanges.

Overall a top effort, more of the same this week please Lads!

As a side note…..it was so nice to see Julie Hopgood, who even though had a lot on, made it out to cheer us on……another reminder of the lengths true Whites will go…….👌

That’s it

Result: Rostrevor 1 – 6 Whites

Lads your were just a delight yesterday, a 6-1 win was a fitting reward for your efforts! From the start we attacked with purpose and with a brilliant turn and composed finish, from our new Japanese signing…..Deo, Rio, Mio, Sio…..I will get it one day! After that we continued to control the pace and midfield, with Rob, Kirsten & Larsen do their thing! Two more goals before half time, a penalty from Bobby, along with customary mask wielding celebration…..not sure Pens are appropriate!! Then Aaron scored from a cracking through ball from Wez. To there credit the other lot, came out and put some passes together and had a good spell & even got a soft goal back! Luckily it sparked us back into life and we cemented a deserved score line with further goals from Larson and a hatrick for that fella from Japan… . Kudos to you all, great squad performance.

Result: Rostrevor 3 – 3 Whites

Another draw again for the Cs, or perhaps another game that got away. We went 2-0 down in the first half due to a dodgy penalty and a laps in concentration. The Whites managed to come back and take the lead at 3-2, through goals from Mikey, Campbell, and Ismail. The boys showed great team spirit and determination. However, the referee gave them their second penalty for the game, which was converted to make it 3-3. The ref continued to hand out penalties like Bas hands out snags on match days, however we couldn’t convert ours to win the game in the dying minutes. That’s football for you! 2 weeks off to recover and set out sites on a top 2 position.

Thats It!

Result: Rostrevor 1 – 0 Whites

Uni Whites 1B travelled to Rostrevor this week with Harry and Stu making their return to the Reserve Team. The Whites started well with the ball mostly in the Rostrevor half. We had a few great chances to score from corners but unfortunately couldn’t find the finish. Rostrevor were a bit under siege for most of the game but there experience kept them in the match. Unfortunately, Whites were punished for one moment of laziness as their tall striker was allowed to bring the ball down and layup a volley for the midfielder who slotted it home. Unfortunately the match ended 1-0, a lesson in being clinical in front of goal, very unlucky for whites who played a good match and dominated most of the stats, unfortunately shots over the cross bar stat to. Joe dominated his wing again, Ali and Stu did well in midfield, Leo and James were strong all day, Omar and Mo created a lot just couldn’t find a finish today. Big test next week against Reds 1A in the cup.

Result: Rostrevor 3 – 2 Whites

Determined to turn the season around, Whites 1A take on Rossy away. A slightly older, and far slower team took the field this week as we battle a growing injury list. Rossy moved the ball around as Whites structured up to screen and limit possession high in midfield. Whites looked to bring in the speed and running of Matt and Jimmy with Alex playing as a holdup 9. In the 30th minute mark,  Alex found space in the corner of their 18yard box and slotted under the keeper to take us 1-0 up at half time. We had given up possession but starved them of any clear chances in the first half, the second started similar. In about the 70th minute Rossy broke through and won the ball in our box and somehow the ball found its way into the far post. The game opened up from here as we conceded a second before Matt Chan pulled one back with a nice finish 2-2. Unfortunately we lost Alex, Scott and Roschi to injury and conceded a third in the last few mins. We continued to attack going 3 at the back but unfortunately couldn’t find an equaliser. Hard to swallow after going into the break 1-0 up, but we should believe we can beat this team and take that into the cup match next week!
